Marchand D’Or has been the ante-post favourite pretty much since the market opened for a race where French horses traditionally struggle. This year though Freddie Head’s star and his colleague African Rose, also fancied here, represent two of the best sprinters in the business at the moment.

Marchand has beaten quality runners time after time this season including landing Newmarket’s premier short distance prize the July Cup. The five-year-old gelding has always been consistent this season usually within touching distance and in races that are more akin to a cavalry charge that’s quite a feat.

Sprint Cup winner African Rose is available at 12/1 after her superb display at Doncaster and although its true she was second to her main rival in a Group One sprint in France back in August the three-year-old was just ¾ of a length back and it wouldn’t take much to reverse the form.

Nunthorpe hero Borderlescott is also given a chance here. The British raider was impressive when taking his Group One prize and is always knocking on the door in high profile races.

And finally a mention goes to Kingsgate Native, the winner of the Golden Jubilee stakes during Royal Ascot. The much travelled horse was fifth behind the favourite in the July Cup but again it wouldn’t take much for a reversal in fortunes.
